Shinrin Yoku LA

THE BRIEF

The new kid in town blazing some old trails.

Shinrin Yoku. Okay. What is that? I knew that was going to be the audience’s first questions because it was my first question with Ben Page, a Shinrin Yoku leader, brought this project to my attention. What he needed was a simple was to introduce people to a new way to experience their surroundings – based on an age-old practice. Simple yet ancient. Where would be the best place to start? Nature.

THE RESULT

By its very nature, a simple yet evocative message.

Shinrin Yoku LA is an example of a simple website and brand with a quick turnaround time that needed to evoke a very clear message. Ben and I conceived of the design as something that felt like a walk in the woods – open, intriguing, and inviting. The copy played an integral role in communicating to the audience the message we were here to share jumbled up in that heap of letters, Shinrin Yoku. We needed to convince them that this wasn’t your regular walk through the wilderness. With keywords like “awareness”, “being present”, and “meditation” we were able to jump-start the reader’s attention and bring them into the experience simply and – wait for it! – naturally.
